West Virginia American Water Response to Flood-Related Operational Impacts Continues

Water service restored to customers in Blue Creek and valley areas of Clendenin
Since yesterday evening, West Virginia American Water has restored water
service to the Blue Creek area and the valley areas of Clendenin. Crews
continue to work around the clock to restore service to approximately
500 customers that remain without service in the Doctor’s Creek,
Thorofare Road and higher elevations of Clendenin as well as Queen
Shoals, which involves repairing and filling approximately 15-20 miles
of main.
Work is underway to make a complicated temporary repair to a crossing on
Spencer Road, which is necessary to restore service to Doctor’s Creek
and Thorofare. Crews are also systematically working through the
Clendenin area to turn off leaking services and locate and repair
damaged mains. Although water service has been restored to additional
areas, heavy water usage throughout the day could negatively impact
restoration and possibly result in additional outages.
Local crews supplemented by workers from West Virginia American Water’s
Huntington district are assisting Queen Shoals PSD in response to an
emergency request for assistance. The company has received reports that
Queen Shoals PSD’s water system was badly damaged, and crews are working
to access and survey the area and devise a plan for repairs, which is
likely to take multiple days.
Potable water tankers are available at the following locations:
-
Herbert Hoover High School in Elkview
-
Clendenin Park & Ride at Clendenin exit off I-79
-
Corner of Reamer Road and Maywood Road in Clendenin
-
Smith’s Foodfair in Clendenin
-
Corner of Lizemore Road and River Haven Road off the Queen Shoals
Bridge
-
Keeneys Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Winona
