West Virginia American Water and American Water Charitable Foundation Award $15,000 to Eastern Panhandle Charities
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. (Nov. 20, 2024) – West Virginia American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced today that the Foundation has awarded a combined total of $15,000 to three local charities in the Eastern Panhandle. Main Street Martinsburg, Meals on Wheels of Berkeley County and Boys & Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle were each awarded $5,000 through the Foundation’s State Strategic Impact Grant Program.
“I want to thank the American Water Charitable Foundation and West Virginia American Water family for your generous donation. Community partners who are willing to invest in the children in our community are invaluable to our mission,” said Stacie Rohn, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle. “You truly have made a difference for the children who walk through our doors each day.”
The American Water Charitable Foundation selected three organizations to receive grants based on their integral role in providing health and wellness services and initiating community sustainability efforts:
- Main Street Martinsburg: a collaboration of dedicated volunteers, business and property owners, concerned citizens, and local governments working together to promote and enhance the economic strength of historic downtown Martinsburg.
- Meals on Wheels Berkeley County: a non-profit that provides hot, nutritious, low-cost meals for homebound, disabled, and convalescing residents of Berkeley County, West Virginia.
- Boys & Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle: provides afterschool and summer programming for youth ages 6 to 18 at clubs in Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties.
State Strategic Impact grants are part of the 2024 Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. State Strategic Impact grants support high-impact projects and initiatives throughout American Water’s national footprint.
“At West Virginia American Water, our mission is to deliver clean, safe, reliable and affordable drinking water and wastewater services while serving as a strong and impactful partner within our communities,” said Robert Burton, president of West Virginia American Water. “We believe that our communities are safer and stronger when we all work together to see our local non-profits succeed.”
In 2023, West Virginia American Water, in collaboration with the American Water Charitable Foundation, donated more than $259,000 to organizations in its communities through grants, scholarships, general charitable contributions and programming support.
