New Delivery Methods Support Commitment to Environmental Quality
CORONADO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--California American Water announced today that its 2012 Consumer
Confidence Reports will be made exclusively available online and will
not be mailed to customers as in previous years. Customers without
access or who would like a hard copy can contact the company to receive
a copy. Water customers wishing to view the 2012 report can do so by
visiting www.californiaamwater.com.
Messages will also be posted on upcoming water bills to provide
customers with a specific website address to access their service area’s
water quality report.
In January 2013, the United States Environmental Protection Agency ruled
that water utilities had the option to inform customers of their
Consumer Confidence Report’s availability at a specific website address
as opposed to printing and sending it as a direct mailing or as a bill
insert. The California Department of Public Health adopted the EPA’s
ruling on CCRs and California American Water acted swiftly to take
advantage of this more efficient and environmentally friendly option for
delivering reports on our 2012 water quality information.
Printed copies of the report will be available to customers who cannot –
or do not wish to – access it online. Customers can call the company’s
24-hour customer service center at 1-888-237-1333 to request a printed
copy of their district’s report.
New delivery methods support the water industry’s commitment to ongoing
environmental quality without minimizing the importance of the CCRs to
customers, according to California American Water president Rob MacLean.
“We are pleased to report that the water supplied to our customers is of
higher quality than required by state and federal drinking water
standards,” MacLean said. “Our team of water quality and operations
professionals works hard each and every day to ensure the highest
quality water and service to our customers.”
The annual Consumer Confidence Report is a performance measure of the
quality of water supplied by California American Water against the
compliance standards established by the EPA and the California
Department of Public Health. The report describes local drinking water
sources, tests results conducted on the water and the substances
detected as well as their levels. Commonly asked questions and the
answers concerning local drinking water are also included in the report.
California American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK),
provides high quality and reliable water and/or wastewater service to
approximately 600,000 people.
Founded in 1886, American Water is the largest publicly traded U.S.
water and wastewater utility company. With headquarters in Voorhees,
N.J., the company employs approximately 6,700 dedicated professionals
who provide drinking water, wastewater and other related services to an
estimated 14 million people in more than 30 states, as well as parts of
